It is important to plan and set aside money for future repairs. With each mile your
truck runs, it consumes a potion of the life and cost of these repairs that will
sooner or later need. This Non-Scheduled Repair Reserve is defined as money set
aside for repairs that are largely unknown as to exactly when they will occur. For
these type of repairs we create a range of best case and worst case. An example
of this would be an engine rebuild. An engine rebuild may be necessary at 150,000
miles or 250,000. The difference is often relates to gallons or liters of fuel consumed.
This is another way of describing operating conditions.
The Repair Reserve Calculators set the amount of money necessary to put aside with
each mile driven. Your repair cost depends not only on the cost of the repair and
frequency of repair but also on four major conditions which are unique to your operation.
These are:
- Service Conditions describes the amount of stopping, starting and environmental
conditions
- Repair Maintenance Policy describes the way components are replaced.
- Operator Maintenance describes the level of involvement of the operator in basic
maintenance like checking fluids and truck functions. Operators that involved with
their truck's operating conditions often have lower costs because things get fixed
before they are major problems.
- Preventive Maintenance is a major driver of costs, either up or down.
